Lesson Plans - Martin Luther King, Jr and US Civil Rights

In August 2013, Apples and Snakes in association with the Southbank Centre presented a day of spoken word, films and music in responce and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr's "I Have a Dream Speech".  This event was the culmination of a wider programme of artist commissions and participation programmes that matched artists with various community groups to discuss Martin Luther King. Jr and the themes and legacy of the speech and the US Civil Rights movement as a whole.  The following education resource packs where created by Artists Kenny Baraka and Miriam Nash to facilitate this programme and to encourage creative writing and stimulate debate.

The Man - The making of a leader

The Speech

The Movement - Freedom Songs

The Movement Continues - Legacy
