Projects
Apples and Snakes creates and supports an array of innovative projects, from spoken word shows on tour to education programmes.
We're currently creating a digital Spoken Word Archive, preserving a cultural heritage that has reflected and influenced many social and political movements over the last 30-plus years. The Archive will showcase the history of spoken word and performance poetry through rare sound and video recordings, photographs and press cuttings.
Some of our archived projects include Picture the Poet a national touring exhibition bringing together photographic portraits of some of the most important poets of our times, Spine Festival which celebrated arts and literature in libraries across London, The Last Poets: Speak Up Newcomers Tour, which saw the legendary godfathers of hip-hop captivate audiences up and down the country; Shake the Dust, the biggest youth poetry slam the UK has ever seen; Architects Of Our Republic, an explosion of poetry, music and film commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.’s "I have a dream" speech; SPOKE, a visionary poetry and spoken word programme in and around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. See below for information about our current projects.
